2. Salt Mushing at the Bottom of the Brine Tank

Fix: You'll need to scoop or vacuum out the old salt, flush the tank with clean water, and refill with fresh pellet salt. This is also a good time to inspect the brine tube and float assembly for mineral buildup. High-iron well water in Ocala can accelerate this problem significantly.


3. Resin Bed Fouled or Exhausted

What it is: The resin beads are the heart of your softener—they're what actually trap hardness minerals through ion exchange. Over time (and faster in high-iron water), they become coated with iron, sediment, or chlorine damage and lose their ability to soften.

Signs: Water tests hard even right after a regeneration cycle. You might also see reddish-brown tinting in your water.
